On Monday 10th March we had the pleasure of being part of the official opening of Glowsticks’ new Cafe and Hub located in Dundas shopping centre in Middlesbrough in Unit 13, the old Orchard Cafe.
Glowsticks is a brand new charity, set up by Rebecca Ibbotson, dedicated to supporting children and young people living with autism and ADHD.
John Atkinson, Community Action and Development Officer at MVDA, was honoured to be asked to help cut the ribbon. John has worked very closely with Rebecca in recent months in supporting her with charity registration. The Mayor of Middlesbrough, Chris Cooke, and Mark Davis, Chief Executive at MVDA, were also there to celebrate the event along with many others.
The cafe aims to provide employment opportunities for young people affected by Autism, ADHD, and other coexisting conditions like learning disabilities. They’ll be trained in skills such as Barista work, First Aid, Food Hygiene and Health & Safety.
The space also has a sensory room and ice cream bar, and will host sessions like art & music therapy, cookery lessons, arts & crafts, male ADHD support groups, and lots more
A huge congratulations to Glowsticks for creating such a much needed and supportive space.
