We are looking for people who support our aims of the Charity to help communities and individuals of need across the North East and Cumbria.
We would like to appoint a Director for the Trading Company to manage both the Greenhouse Eco Business Centre (County Durham) and the Land of Oak and Iron Heritage Centre (Gateshead).
About the role
The duties of a Director are as follows:
- Ensuring that the Trading Company is managing the Greenhouse Eco Business Centre, in Co Durham, and the Land of Oak and Iron Heritage Centre, in Gateshead, effectively, whilst providing unrestricted income back to its parent Charity, Groundwork NE & Cumbria.
- Ensuring that The Greenhouse Trading Company complies with company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
- Ensuring that The Greenhouse Trading Company defines its goals and financial strategy and evaluates performance against agreed targets.
- Safeguarding the reputation and values of the Trading Company as well as Groundwork NE & Cumbria.
- Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the Greenhouse Trading Company including having appropriate policies and procedures in place, as agreed with the charity.
- Contributing to the financial stability of Groundwork NE & Cumbria.
- Compliance with statutory accounting requirements.
- Protecting and managing the property of the Trading Company and parent Charity and ensuring the proper investment of funds.
- In addition to the above statutory duties, each Director should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board of Directors reach sound decisions. This may involve: scrutinising board papers; leading discussions; focusing on key issues; providing advice and guidance on new initiatives; or other issues in which the Director has special expertise.

Skills
The candidate will have skills and or knowledge in one of the following: finance; marketing; Business leadership/ management.
Attendance at Meetings
Directors will be expected to attend up to 6 Board meetings per year and, were possible, attend ad-hoc events with the full charity board.
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
If your application is successful, this position is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
Safeguarding
The Trust has an approved Safeguarding Policy in place which applies to all staff, including senior managers and the board of Directors/ trustees, paid staff, volunteers or anyone working on behalf of Groundwork NE & Cumbria.
The purpose of the policy is to:
- Protect children, young people and adults at risk who participate in the activities and services that we provide. This includes the children of adults who use our services
- Provide staff and volunteers with the principles and good practice guidelines to enable them to meet their safeguarding responsibilities.
