Middlesbrough 1st is seeking to recruit a highly motivated Manager to deliver a community-based project aimed at delivering advocacy services to adults with learning disabilities.
The post will be funded through The National Lottery Community Fund for 3 years and may be extended dependent on funding sources available.

Responsible to: Middlesbrough 1st Board
Primary Job Function: To be responsible for the management and development of Middlesbrough 1st, ensuring the service is of a high quality and is fully functional. To be proactive in marketing all the objectives of the project, and to develop a strategic oversight of service development to ensure people with a learning disability and/or autism are treated as full and equal citizens.
Applicant will have:
- Experience of working in the community delivering a service direct to the public
- Experience of working with people with disabilities
- Experience of financial management
- Experience of working with volunteers
Job Description:
1. To be responsible for the high quality day-to-day management of Middlesbrough 1st
2. To ensure appropriate mechanisms are in place to strengthen effective consultation and engagement with people with learning disabilities and/or autism.
3. To be responsible for the management and supervision of any Middlesbrough 1st staff and all volunteers.
4. To ensure that people with learning disabilities are at the heart of the service and fully involved at all levels of Middlesbrough 1st (co-production), including meaningful attendance at Board meetings, developing work programmes, easy read literature etc.
5. To manage the finances of Middlesbrough 1st within the agreed budget and provide regular financial reports and updates to members of Middlesbrough 1st Board.
6. To provide professional advice and guidance and support to Middlesbrough 1st Board Members.
7. To prepare reports for Middlesbrough 1st Board members and attend Board meetings.
8. To actively attend other local and regional meetings, briefings and events which will benefit all members of Middlesbrough 1st and people with learning disabilities and/or autism living in the local area.
9. To promote Middlesbrough 1st with key stakeholders at all levels.
10. To provide advice and information to all key stakeholders in respect of people with a learning disability and/or autism which will enable them to make reasonable adjustments to ensure the accessibility of services.
11. To maintain and update knowledge/awareness of local and national initiatives plus any legislative changes in respect of the work relating to Middlesbrough 1st.
12. To redevelop Middlesbrough 1st’s Advocacy support service for people with a learning disability and/or autism along with their carers - this includes individual and group advocacy.
13. To attract external partners and agencies in becoming key stakeholders with Middlesbrough 1st to support the delivering of services.
14. To be proactive in marketing Middlesbrough 1st to all people with a learning disability and/or autism.
15. To establish campaigns based on legislative and social changes, which will enhance the quality of life for people with a learning disability.
16. To ensure all funding opportunities are explored to safeguard the future and stability of Middlesbrough 1st.
17. To undertake any relevant training to ensure the post holder remains up to date on issues and all information distributed is current and relevant.
18. To monitor and evaluate the project so it can meet the funder’s objectives, outputs and outcomes along with making recommendation for future actions.
19. To provide training for staff and volunteers when required.
