To embed a focus for coproduction/cocreation strategically across the community mental health transformation programme, whilst ensuring effective support and challenge at a governance level and installing continuous improvement and learning as key pillars for success.
Job Summary
The post holder will:
- Hold the steering group to account in relation to service user, carer, family and community/VCSE engagement and involvement.
- Be involved in the transformation of services across the system, promoting innovative and creative ways of working with service users and carers. Advocating for cocreation and partnership working, across strategic, operational and delivery partnership.
- Support the lived experience trainers, in partnership with The Recovery College, to deliver fit for purpose programmes that meet the needs of people with lived experience, volunteers and employed staff within the mental health community hub and wider system.
- Assist in the establishment and maintenance of effective working relationships between staff working across the system and service users and carers.
- Support clinical and non-clinical staff to gain a deeper and more meaningful insight into the needs of service users and carers and to promote cocreation throughout the transformation programme.
- Act as a resource for the steering group, task groups, service users, carers and staff in maintenance, commissioning, planning, improving and development of future services.
- Provide support and practical training for service users and carers to support them to thrive as involvement members and get involved in various cocreation activities.
- Build relationships with the central involvement team and the locality participation leads and external VCSE organisations to support cocreation across the system.
- Positively promote at all times a positive image of people with mental health conditions and learning disabilities. Challenge discrimination where appropriate.
- Assist service users and carers through their involvement activities when there is a need to voice potential challenge the steering group.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To contribute to the effective achievement of the cocreation and lived experience strategic journey, through working alongside clinical and non-clinical services to identify, promote and support cocreation and the involvement of service users and carers.
- To provide emotional support and practical training to facilitate cocreation and have the ability to respond compassionately to distressing or emotional issues which may be encountered.
- To work with clinical services and the VCSE to identify and support service users, carers and implement innovative, accessible and creative approaches for families to get involved in system development across a range of cocreation activities.
- Have an appreciation of the social factors of mental ill health and the compounding effects of health inequalities i.e. social exclusion from mainstream activities, discrimination, stigma etc which contribute to extraordinary physical ill health.
- To have an appreciation of the challenges facing people and families in accessing mental health services.
- To facilitate partnership working with staff, service users and their families and carers to ensure involvement is negotiated in models of care.
- To support the development of participation groups with service users and carers in both care groups that supports good governance.
- To implement, contribute to and maintain recording and monitoring systems for lived experience cocreation activities, including supporting service users and carers to claim travel expenses and honorariums and ensure claims are processed in line with policy.
- To produce accessible reports and minutes on activities and meetings and present where appropriate, to a range of stakeholders.
- To effectively manage own time to meet the needs of the business and that of the wider system.
- To coordinate, facilitate and chair where appropriate meetings in line with identified areas of work.
- To take minutes of meetings attended where appropriate.
- To ensure that the details of individuals undertaking activities are held on the appropriate registers in line with policies and are maintained for future reporting and auditing purposes.
- To advocate for service users, facilitate and support cocreation in developing new policies or policy changes to support service user and carer voices and perspectives to be heard and acted upon throughout policies.
- To interpret national policy on cocreation, coproduction, involvement etc so as to inform existing policy implementation, allowing the delivery of mental health services to meet local need.
- To implement any policy requirements within the wider system.
- To contribute to the effective achievement of the cocreation and lived experience strategic journey.
- To undertake any research as required for the wider system.
- To support service users and carers to participate in research and audit throughout the system.
- Provide supervision and support to more junior locality participation leads and lived experience roles.
- To ensure that all appropriate training and personal development is undertaken in line with policies.
- To deliver training programmes to staff, service users and carers where appropriate linked with involvement activities.
- To support the involvement of service users and carers in the recruitment, retention and training of staff.
General

- To undertake any such duties required by the relevant Senior Manager or PCP Chief Executive.
