Job Title: Children, Young People and Family Practitioner
Responsible to: Senior Practitioner Manager– Seen Heard Believed Project and ultimately the Safer Communities Board of Directors
Salary: Starting salary £22,867.1 rising to £24212.14 on completion of Trauma Informed Training
Location: Corvette House, Falcon Court, Stockton
Hours and Terms: 37hrs Fixed Term contract ending June 2023 subject to an extension to June 2024
There will be an expectation of some evening and weekend working as dictated by the project need.
Seen Heard Believed Project
We are looking for enthusiastic people to join our dynamic team of Practitioners. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of this developing project, providing support to families in Middlesbrough using trauma informed practice methodologies, training is provided in recognition that this approach is relatively new.
Your role will be to work with the whole family for as long as it is need. We are already seeing that our whole family approach is showing positive results in families for them to be able to take control in their own lives.
Whilst the job is closely aligned to mainstream statutory services, we take referrals from a variety of agencies. Our practitioners work closely with other VCSE organisations so families can be supported in the most innovate of ways – access youth and community services and a range of other opportunities.

Job Purpose:
Trauma Informed Practice the principles of which are too:
- Treat people with respect and dignity
- Respect and promote people’s rights to take control and make their own informed choices and decisions (empowerment)
- Ensure the safety and welfare of children and young people is paramount
- Recognise boundaries both professional and personal within the delivery practice.
- Demonstrate – empathy, consistency and boundaries
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
To carry a client caseload, providing assessments; action plans; and which demonstrate progress toward positive outcome/changes of behaviours.
To deliver intensive family centred interventions/support to children, young people and their families referred into the team, in a timely and appropriate manner and that these interventions/support:
-
- Lead to improved outcomes for the individuals and families
- Link with the community in order that families are able to maintain control of their own lives after/during the intervention
- Meet the identified needs of the family
Manage a case management system uploading factual, accurate and appropriate data that demonstrates the invention/support provides.
NOTE: As a developing project the above roles and responsibilities may change over time as such the organisations reserves the right to vary tasks within the salary grade.

Person Specification
In recognition that this is a new and developing project we would expect that training and upskilling is required particularly Trauma Informed Practice as such this is not part of the person specification but would be an advantage.

We are looking for people who able to engage with children, young people and families experiencing a range of complex issues. Whilst being able to relate theory to practice is an advantage obtained through formal relatable education i.e. social care, youth and community, criminal justice qualifications its not a prerequisite of this post – we want people who are passionate about change.
√ Have some knowledge of the Criminal Justice System
√ Experience of carrying out assessment to identify the needs of young people and the risks they present, able to create action plans and goal setting with young people.
√ Able to use resources and tools to support families and young people’s goals and aspirations
√ Understanding of the locality and the local voluntary sector and other youth agencies.
√ Understanding of Adverse Child Experience and its long-term effects
√ Valuing Diversity – demonstrates and understand of working within anti-discriminatory practice and can demonstrate an understanding of the negative effects of discrimination and prejudice.
√ Sound knowledge of, and experience in, matters of safeguarding (training is mandatory)
Skills and Attributes
√ Confident with IT, recording and populating spreadsheets and databases
√ Ability to manage own workload within a demanding environment
√ Understand and maintain professional and personal boundaries
Work related circumstances
√ Ability to work unsocial hours including evenings and weekends including residential stays
√ We would expect our staff to hold a full driving licence and be use their car for business purposes.
√ Active commitment to continuous personal professional development and workforce development.
√ Attend supervision, clinical supervision and additional training as required.
