Tees Valley Inclusion Project (TVIP) is a BAME women led community interest company established in 2011 to support women from a diverse range of communities in social, physical, cultural, educational, health, employment and empowerment activities, programmes and initiatives. Our aim is to empower women and girls so they can feel safe, protected and equip them with tools which help them reach their potential and so that they feel part of the wider community.
TVIP provides advice and guidance and support to those victims who are suffering domestic and sexual violence and or at risk of, specifically, Honour Based Violence (HBV) Forced Marriage (FM) and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). To date, we have helped in excess of a thousand BME women, those at crisis fleeing from abuse and supported them with safeguarding and on a 1:1 action plan basis with emergency housing, emotional and practical support to help them to rebuild their lives with the aim of independent living in new communities, free from harm. TVIP works with individuals who are seeking advice and help and delivers specifically designed activity and education programmes.
Following our award from the Big Lottery Fund we are seeking to expand our small but dedicated team to successfully deliver our new Halo BAME Survivors Project – “Break the Silence” across Tees Valley, Durham and Darlington. Break the Silence aims to Prevent Violence and Abuse, Protect and also Support Victims from crisis to independent living. Delivery of the project will include social action, outreach, awareness advice and guidance and organising and delivering safety events in the heart of BAME communities. It will work with multi-agency partners and with victims to keep them safe and deliver 1:1 tailored support alongside the delivery of formal community education programmes and training.
We are therefore seeking two BAME Support and Education Workers with the skills, knowledge and expertise to deliver this new and exciting project on a fixed term 3-year basis. You ideally will have knowledge of domestic and or sexual violence, have delivered safety planning and or IAG in communities, have planned and delivered community events and feel confident to deliver our community-based training modules. Full training will be offered and the successful applicants will require an enhanced DBS check. Car owner preferred as the project will include local travel across Tees Valley, Darlington and Durham.
