Spotlight on Childhood Acquired Brain Injury

MATRIX Neurological is a registered charity based in Middlesbrough, that works Tees Valley wide. Lived-experience led, we support children and young people living with the effects of an acquired brain injury following an accident or illness. We also provide peer-led practical and emotional support to their families.

Acquired brain injury (ABI) is the biggest cause of death and disability in children and young people in the UK. It is not a mental health issue, although many children and young people are referred to mental health services as there is nowhere else to refer them. Brain injured children cannot be made better through counselling or medication because they need a very different type of treatment and support.

MATRIX Neurological has produced a document to highlighting acquired brain injuries in children and young people; you can read it here.
