We are here to support, promote and develop voluntary and community action in Middlesbrough

Programme Manager

An exciting opportunity to develop and manage The Phoenix Way NE & Cumbria (TPWNE&C) - a rapidly growing network of Black* led organisations.

We are seeking someone who believes in, and is committed to our cause and has the drive and determination to help us achieve it.

You must have a track record of working through an anti-racist lens to promote and support intercultural and interfaith communities. You will be a passionate, dynamic and experienced leader, who is exceptional at building and maintaining relationships with a wide range of people and organisations: locally, regionally and nationally.

You will support the Steering Group across all elements of its work, including engagement with the Regional Hub, to support and progress developments at TPW (nationally). You will be responsible for: creating a clear implementation plan to meet our strategic objectives and developing the legal identity, structure and culture of TPWNE&C. Management of staff and finances, identification of future funding streams; engagement with a diverse range of stake holders and the development of a Stakeholder Plan are key responsibilities. The role is varied, with great opportunity to help shape the future of TPWNE&C.

The Phoenix Way, is a partnership made up of six regional partner organisations (the National Leadership Group), the lead convenor of which is the Ubele Initiative. It is a grant making initiative aimed at transforming Black and racially minoritised communities, with current support for grant distribution from GlobalFund for Children. Funding (for infrastructure and grantmaking) currently comes from a range of funders including The Youth Endowment Fund and Lloyds Bank Foundation.

The Angelou Centre and Anti Racist Cumbria are the regional leads for TPWNE&C and co-chair a Steering Group of nine groups/organisations from across these regions. Our vision is a North East and Cumbria free from all forms of racism- structural or otherwise.

We lend our voice, stand in solidarity and provide support as allies to everyone who experiences discrimination, however, we focus specifically on people who are discriminated against due to skin colour.

This post is initially for one year fixed term, during which the successful applicant will be hosted (employed) by The Angelou Centre. They will be managed by The Angelou Centre’s Executive Director and be accountable to the Steering Group of TPWNE&C.

Due to the nature of the work and the vision of TPWNE&C, this opportunity is open to applicants from Black communities. We particularly welcome applications from Black people who are seasoned managers and have managed programmes of this nature before or who have experience of managing programmes.

* We use the term Black as an inclusive term to all people from the African and Asian diaspora.
