Our catering team provides a high quality service to the Hospice's Inpatient Unit, Wellbeing Centre and popular on site Coffee Shop. We are currently seeking an Assistant Cook to support the team. You will work in the hospice kitchen, assisting with the organisation and day to day provision of meals for patients, guests, staff and volunteers.
This will initially be for a temporary period of at least 6 months to cover maternity absence with the possibility of extending after this time.
The role is 22.5 hours per week to include some weekend working on a rota basis.The hours include some early mornings and weekends on a shift basis but you will rarely work past 6pm each day and weekend days are shorter.
Main duties include:
- To provide a high standard of food preparation, production and presentation of all food
- To co-ordinate with the Head Chef the provision of supplies stock and equipment needs, liaise with local suppliers, verification of receipt of goods, then passing of all invoices to the Finance Section for payment when Head Chef is absent
- To perform any other duties that may be associated with the post
You will need to have:
- An NVQ Food Preparation and Cooking or City and Guilds 706 part 1 and 2 and a Food Handlers Certificate
- A clear understanding of HACCP and practice accordingly
- A clear understanding of COSHH regulations
As an organised individual the ideal candidate will have the confidence and ability to work well under pressure, either on their own or as part of a team. There will be times when you will be working alone in the kitchen so you will need to be comfortable and confident with this environment.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in catering and have a Basic Food Hygiene Qualification and 706 Levels 1 & 2, or equivalent
- Good cooking skills and a passion and flair with food
- Commitment to delivering a high quality service
- Effective communication skills and portray enthusiasm and compassion
- Excellent team working skills and a can-do attitude
- A flexible in approach to their working hours.
