An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Volunteer Programme Coordinator to join Teesside Hospice to help develop our volunteer experience.
Volunteers are an essential part of the team at Teesside Hospice and thanks to their generosity of time, energy, and skills, we can deliver our specialist palliative care to the people of Teesside every year. Our volunteers have chosen to give us their time for a variety of reasons. For some it’s a chance to give something back and for others it’s a way to meet new people, learn new skills and enhance their CV and employability skills.
As a Volunteer Programme Coordinator, you will lead an inclusive and impactful volunteering programme. You will be a keen advocate for volunteering, with experience of best practice in managing volunteers including recruitment, reward and recognition, communication, and training and development. You will work with departments and support them on the day-to-day administration and support of a team of volunteers and their activities; recognising individual strengths and effectively deploying volunteers into roles that will meet the needs of the organisation.
About You:
You will be forward thinking and flexible, actively looking at ways to continually improve our volunteer programme. You will demonstrate an awareness of the value of volunteers and play a key role in developing innovative recruitment and induction methods that work across the organisation. You will be comfortable speaking to people to help us to increase awareness within our community of the variety of volunteering opportunities that are available, whether it’s someone to help with a one-off event or someone who wants to give their time on a regular basis as one of our reception, coffee shop, hospice, or shop volunteers.
You will need to be highly organised as there are many different volunteer roles to recruit for and you will need to be on the ball with applications, onboarding and induction as well as keeping in touch with our volunteer community and their managers.
You will ideally have previous experience of working with and supporting volunteers and be able to communicate with a range of different people, adapting your style to suit.
You will need to have regular access to a vehicle as the role involves attendance at external volunteer recruitment events, networking and engaging with the community as well as visiting our sites and shops to stay connected with volunteers. As our shops cover a wide part of the Teesside area, from Yarm to Skelton and most places in between, it is not always possible to rely on public transport.
