Based in central Middlesbrough, My Sisters Place provides specialist services. We have an exciting opportunity as we are seeking a full time Children’s Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (CIDVA), to join this dynamic team. Our holistic approach requires high performing individuals with excellent people skills, and a resilient personality to deal with some difficult issues with a strong client focus. Clear adherence to confidentiality and Safeguarding is essential. Purpose of the role:
To work with younger victims (aged 13-19), who are experiencing or have experienced domestic violence as part of an intimate relationship.
To increase their safety, and where applicable that of their children, by providing crisis support by telephone or face to face and to assist other aspects of the service as appropriate in order to reduce repeat victimisation.
Specific Responsibilities:
- To undertake risk assessments and risk manage cases identified as a priority.
- To provide flexible crisis support service to teenage victims experiencing, or who have experienced domestic abuse (including harmful coercive behaviour and sexual exploitation) in a way which demonstrates respect and understanding for their individual circumstances with the aim of increasing their safety and that of their children, enabling them to increase their understanding of domestic violence and its effects and to make informed choices for their future
- To act as an advocate on behalf of the victim where appropriate, including writing letters or reports, and accompanying victims to outside agencies e.g. housing departments, social services, solicitors, crown prosecution service, civil & criminal courts, taking into account personal safety and complying with Health and Safety and Equal Opportunities legislation and procedures at all times.
- To protect and promote the rights of young people who have witnessed or been subject to domestic violence.
- To empower and enable young people to have a voice by providing information, advice, support and advocacy.
- To facilitate regular group meetings and the development of a young person’s forum to increase awareness of their needs in order to influence future service provision.
- To assist in the development and delivery of groups and programmes to support children and young people affected by domestic abuse, and those young adults at risk of becoming perpetrators or victims in their own relationship.
- To assist in the development of peer support opportunities and positive activities for young people.
- To work in schools delivering sessions that raise awareness of the impact of DA and Healthy Relationships
