Open Door seeks to support those seeking sanctuary to move out of poverty and destitution and be empowered to achieve their full potential.
The charity has ambitious plans to transform the charity’s housing portfolio to improve the lives of refugees, asylum seekers and other vulnerable migrants by ensuring it generates income, as well as fulfilling our charitable aims.
This newly created role will be an important part of the Senior Management Team, reporting directly to our Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Together with the CEO, you will support the Board of Trustees to fulfil its responsibilities in the governance of the charity, its strategic development and its long-term sustainability.
You will have experience of stakeholder relationships and building partnerships, including voluntary, statutory and local authorities in particular. You'll understand charity income generation and the trading landscape and have proven success in securing new and existing services - and you'll have a passion for making a difference.
Maintaining and upholding the Christian ethos and values of the charity, you will act as an ambassador for ODNE and build relationships/partnerships with key stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have a proactive, innovative approach to leading change and improvement, solving problems in order to bring about strategic objectives and operational efficiencies within the charity. The board has already identified the housing project as the first priority.
You will demonstrate an excellent understanding of the relationship between providing appropriate housing for refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants, and the stability and strength this brings to the individuals we support, the wider community we are part of, and the sustainability of our organisation.
You will have line management responsibilities as well as working alongside a team of staff and volunteers. You will exhibit resilient leadership, and an ability to manage conflicting priorities and find creative solutions to challenges.
Whilst we envisage this role being full-time, for an exceptional candidate we would consider someone who could fulfil the role in a part-time capacity.
We welcome applications from people who have previously worked in the housing and / or refugee sectors, as well as from people who are looking to move into a new area of work and have directly transferable skills and experience. We welcome applications from people with refugee backgrounds.
