MVDA is supporting Yes We Can - a leadership and management development programme for those leading and managing projects, organisations and initiatives delivering social change across the North East region – and we are offering two fully funded places to individuals from Middlesbrough VCS. The programme is delivered over eight whole days training, one day per month, starting November at venues across the region and has three core themes:
- Managing self: values/worldviews, communication, networking, attitudes, behaviours, personal development planning, time management, assertiveness, delegation.
- Leading and managing others: teams, recruitment selection and development, leadership and management, influencing and persuading, motivation and appraisal.
- Working together: vision and strategy, change management, project management, stakeholder management, evaluation.
Places on the course usually cost £800 per person and MVDA is inviting those leading or managing not-for-profit organisations in Middlesbrough to express an interest in the course. We will fully fund two individuals from separate voluntary and community organisations who would otherwise be unable to participate in this rich learning experience in support of both personal and organisational development. We expect individuals to commit to the eight full days (with venues likely to alternate between Newcastle/Gateshead and Middlesbrough) which are scheduled to take place on: 1 November; 6 December; 10 January; 7 February; 7 March; 4 April; 2 May; 6 June (all Wednesday’s). Participants will need to fund their own travel expenses. To express an interest, simply email firstname.lastname@example.org by 12 noon on Monday 9 October with a brief outline of why you are interested in this training opportunity. We aim to let people know if we can fund their place on the course by Friday 13 October.
Whilst the programme is unaccredited, learning acquired can count towards an ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) qualification for those looking to progress onto an accredited programme (though MVDA will not cover the costs of the actual accreditation).
MVDA’s Community Engagement Team Leader, Lisa Bosomworth, participated on the programme last year says “Leadership and Management for Social Change has given me the confidence and new tools to lead and manage my team more effectively. It supports approaches to evidence the development of soft skills as well as traditional learning opportunities. I can’t recommend the informal yet informative approach of facilitation from Robert and Peter highly enough!”.
