We are here to support, promote and develop voluntary and community action in Middlesbrough

Household Support Fund Grant Criteria 2024

Overview

Middlesbrough Council has been awarded funding from the above fund to help residents in the town most in need with energy bills, food, and essential costs. As part of this £25,000 has been allocated to this grant programme for voluntary sector groups to support residents with this. Only apply for the amount that you are confident you will be able to allocate. If you are successful, all monies will need to be allocated to residents by 31st March 2025 as no carry forward of this budget is allowed and will need to be returned. New funding may be available following this date; how this will be allocated will be determined following evaluation of this year’s grant programme. Please contact us before applying if you are unsure of your eligibility or unclear about what we are trying to achieve with the funding.

All projects will be required to register on Middlesbrough Matters as part of their promotion.

Commitment from successful projects –  we need to understand what it is you plan on doing, so in your application please describe how you would identify those most in need; what you will support with and how this will be monitored. You need to explain how you intend to allocate this money and where this will be delivered, target groups and number of staff that will be engaged on the project including roles and responsibilities.

Monitoring requirement:

Information will need to be submitted monthly and regular catch ups on this will be required. This is because we need to determine how successful this programme is in getting this support out to some of our most vulnerable residents.

You need to show:

Number of brief advice interactions.

Number of financial supports delivered, including what was approved.

Background details of those offered support.

Budget breakdown.

What can be funded.

Room hire for Council buildings if needed, or reasonable contribution towards building expenses if using project premises.

Reasonable administration costs.

Allocations to residents based upon criteria specified above.

What can’t be funded.

Travel expenses.

Alcoholic beverages.

Things for individual benefit not classed as essential.

Allocations prior to the grant being approved.

Things not directly linked to the grant.

Who can Apply

Voluntary and Community Sector groups with a recognised set of rules and a bank account in the group’s name.

Deadline is 2nd December 2024

Decision Making

Projects will be assessed by the grants officer who may contact you for more information and a report produced which will be circulated to the grant panel prior to the meeting.

The aim is to hold a panel meeting before Christmas, though there may be a delay if there is difficulty in getting the panel together. Please note that this is a competitive process and not all requests will be approved.

The panel meeting is a democratic process with each member having an equal vote. There are four potential outcomes: declined, approved, conditional approval, deferred. You will receive notification of the decision by email if declined or approved or contacted by the grants officer in the case of deferred or condition approval.

For more information or to discuss your idea please email communitygrants@middlesbrough.gov.uk or ring 01642 729309.
