Who
Middlesbrough Voluntary Development Agency (MVDA) is managing a small grant fund of £15,000 on behalf of the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cleveland (OPCC) through the Cleveland Unit for the Reduction of Violence (CURV) initiative.
What
Community groups are invited to apply for small grants to deliver activity in Newport (Middlesbrough) to empower the community’s voice. Grants will be distributed to community groups with the purpose of building community resilience and cohesion, and improving the perception, and fear of violent crime.
Suggestions on how grant funds could be utilised include (but not exhaustive):
- Increased provision for children and young people in recognition that ‘young people are the biggest offenders in the area’ through Antisocial Behaviour. This could include practical projects such as clearing/ cleaning green spaces for children to play, or educational/ awareness initiatives presenting risks of drugs and engagement in violent crime.
- Focus on promoting healthier lifestyles for all.
- Intergenerational community engagement- bringing residents together to create a stronger sense of community and safety.
Measuring Impact
All projects need to capture a baseline perception of feelings of safety and serious violence within the community which needs to be measured and recorded at the start of the project and again after delivery in order to capture impact of the grant.
